Η infection of urinary system or else urinary tract infection is a very common type infection. Bacteria - especially the E. coli - is the most common cause. Especially the summer, η urinary tract infection is the most common contamination due to sweat and the swimwear we wear, the sea, the swimming pools and in general, the way of life summer where we are a little more free.

Η urinary tract infection (UTI) can involve the following:

  • Urethra and can cause urethritis
  • Kidneys and can cause pyelonephritis
  • The bladder and can cause cystitis

The symptoms include:

  • the need to urinate frequently
  • pain during urination
  • pain in the side or lower back

What are the signs of a UTI?

A urinary tract infection causes inflammation on his wall urinary system. Inflammation can cause the following problems:

  • Pain in your ribs, abdomen, pelvic area, or lower back.
  • Pressure in the lower part of the pelvis
  • Cloudy, foul-smelling urine
  • Urinary incontinence
  • Frequent urination
  • Pain when urinating (dysuria)
  • Blood in your urine (haematuria)

Other symptoms associated with a UTI may include:

  • Pain in the penis
  • Feeling overly tired
  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Nausea and vomiting

UTI prevention

These steps can help reduce the risk of UTIs:

  • Drink plenty of fluids, especially water. Drinking water helps dilute the urine. This leads to more frequent urination - allowing bacteria to be flushed out of the urinary tract before an infection sets in.
  • Try cranberry juice. Drinking cranberry juice is very helpful and not harmful.
  • Wipe from front to back. Do this after urinating and after having a bowel movement. It helps prevent the spread of bacteria from the anus to the vagina and urethra.
  • Empty your bladder immediately after sex. Also drink a full glass of water to help flush out the bacteria
  • Avoid potentially irritating feminine products. Their use in the genital area can irritate the urethra. These products include deodorant sprays, washes and powders.
  • Change your birth control method. Diaphragms, unlubricated condoms, or spermicide-treated condoms may contribute to bacterial growth.
