The condoms are very effective in pregnancy prevention and certain sexually transmitted infections, including HIV/AIDS, as long as you use them correctly.

Instructions for putting on the condom correctly

  1. Check the expiration date and packaging: Each condom has an expiration date printed on the package. Before using a condom, make sure it hasn't expired. Check the package for any holes or signs of wear. Do not use damaged condoms!
  2. Erection: Condoms should be wrapped over the erect penis before any genital contact.
  3. Take the condom out of the package: Be careful not to catch the condom in the package, on your fingernails or other objects.
  4. Squeeze the air out of the tip of the condom: You should leave a 1/2" gap at the end of the condom to collect the sperm after ejaculation. Many condoms have a reservoir at the end for this purpose.
  5. Roll the condom towards the base of the penis: If you accidentally try to put the condom on backwards and it doesn't come off, throw it away and use a new condom.
  6. Contact: Always use a new condom if changing from anal to vaginal or oral contact. Dry condoms are more likely to tear, so use a water-based lubricant on the outside of the condom to keep it slippery.
  7. Ejaculation: After ejaculation, the sperm must remain completely inside the condom.
  8. Hold the lip of the condom and pull: After ejaculation the penis gets smaller quickly. The condom should be held at the base of the penis during penile withdrawal to prevent leakage.
  9. Loss of erection: The penis should be withdrawn before the loss of erection, not after.
  10. Throw the condom in the trash: Wrap the used condom in a tissue and throw it in the trash. Wash your hands.
